BIOGAS PLANT UPGRADE

The biogas plant in Iecava, Latvia will use clean chicken manure as raw material in volumes reaching 100,000 tons per year. The final product is biomethane, which is injected into the common natural gas network (pressure around 17 bar). As part of the modernization project, the plant's volumes were increased by 100%. The plant was supplemented with several engineering structures and technologies, including:

  • One receiving tank with water connection and mechanical stirring, which ensures homogeneous feedstock for the fermentation process. The tanks are equipped with suction equipment and a biological filter for odor and emission treatment with 98% efficiency.
  • Two fermentation tanks with a pump station between them, equipped with mechanical stirrers and a heating circuit for efficient biogas production. The tanks are covered with a double membrane system for gas collection and discharge, a safety relief valve, service platforms and process control sensors. For tank maintenance, the project includes custom-designed doors, through which access is also provided for heavy machinery for more efficient cleaning.
  • Biological pre-treatment station for the removal of sulfur and ammonia from biogas.
  • A burning torch for safety.

The capacity of the plant allows it to process 100,000 tons of manure per year and produce:

  • 150 GWh of biomethane;
  • 20,000 tons of granular fertilizer;
